Sera Monastery

religious

Sera Monastery sits at the foot of Tatipu Hill, roughly one and a quarter miles north of central Lhasa. You can identify the complex by its cluster of white-walled buildings with golden roofs, which appear to climb the hillside like a tapestry. Founded in fourteen nineteen by Jamchen Chojey, a prominent disciple of the Gelug school’s founder Tsongkhapa, the site was originally named for the wild roses that blanketed these valleys every spring.
