Hutiaoxia Town is the primary gateway to the Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the deepest river canyons in the world. Once known as Qiaotou, or Bridgehead, the town sits along the Jinsha River in the southeastern part of Shangri-La City. It serves as the southern anchor for travelers and hikers preparing to enter the massive canyon formed between the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the Haba Snow Mountain.
