Xixi National Wetland Park is defined by a dense, intricate maze of six primary watercourses that wind through ponds, lakes, and reed beds. Spanning roughly eleven square kilometers within western Hangzhou, this landscape functions as a vital urban ecosystem, providing a refuge for over two hundred species of birds. It is recognized as China’s first national wetland park, established in two thousand five to preserve an environment that had spent decades suffering from industrial pollution and urban sprawl.
