Iglesia La Ermita is marked by its neo-Gothic facade and two slim bell towers, structures that rise above the ground in the heart of the historic district. This earthen building, constructed in the early twentieth century, stands on the site of an eighteenth-century chapel where fishermen and travelers once gathered. According to local lore, the chapel originated when fishermen lost at sea prayed for salvation and spotted a mysterious light on the shore, where they later found a wooden cross.
