The Museum of King Jan III's Palace at Wilanów is distinguished by the two copper helmets that crown its central towers, rising above a long, cream-colored facade decorated with white stucco. Built between sixteen seventy-seven and sixteen ninety-six, this estate began as a modest suburban villa for King Jan III Sobieski and his wife, Marie Casimire. The architect Augustin Wincenty Locci designed the residence to combine European Baroque styles with traditional Polish motifs, creating a retreat where the king, a celebrated military commander known as the savior of Christendom, could escape the pressures of his nearby capital.
