Bran Castle

Bran Castle is marked by its jagged silhouette and towers rising directly from a sixty-meter-high cliff. Constructed in the late fourteenth century on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, it was originally a stone fortress designed by the Saxons of Brașov to protect a strategic mountain pass. Its early purpose was to guard against Ottoman expansion and serve as a customs house for merchants crossing into the region.
