Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah, known as the Alsagoff Arab School, is marked by its Dutch Indies-style architecture, featuring wide, shaded verandahs, double-storey high arches, and intricately crafted cast-iron balusters. Established in nineteen twelve, this school on Jalan Sultan holds the title of the oldest surviving madrasah in Singapore. It traces its beginnings to the late nineteenth century, when Syed Mohamed bin Ahmed Alsagoff, a wealthy merchant and philanthropist from Yemen, began teaching a small group of students in his own family home on Java Road.
