Yangdong Folk Village

historic

Yangdong Folk Village is recognizable by its collection of over one hundred and sixty traditional houses, some with tiled roofs and others with thatched roofs, scattered across the forested slopes and valleys of Mount Seolchang. This is a living village, established in the fifteenth century during the Joseon dynasty by the Wolseong Son and Yeogang Yi clans. Its layout reflects the strict social hierarchy of the time, with the grand homes of the yangban aristocracy perched on the high ground, while the simpler thatched-roof dwellings of commoners occupy the lower areas.
