Bulguksa

religious

Bulguksa sits on the slopes of Tohamsan, identifiable by its elevated wooden prayer halls perched upon massive, ancient stone-faced terraces. This temple, whose name translates to the Temple of the Buddha Land, was established in the sixth century and underwent a major expansion in seven hundred fifty-one under the direction of the Silla Kingdom prime minister, Kim Daeseong. He commissioned the work to honor his parents, and the complex was designed to physically represent the Buddhist realm on earth.
