Kansong Art Museum

The Kansong Art Museum is a pristine white, two-story building that stands in the quiet neighborhood of Seongbuk-dong. Originally named Bohwagak, or a house for the protection of treasures, it was built in nineteen thirty-eight by the wealthy philanthropist Jeon Hyeong-pil, who used the pen name Kansong. Architect Park Gil-ryong designed the structure during the Japanese colonial period, incorporating then-modern features like Italian marble and hardwood floors to house a growing collection of Korean artifacts.
