The one hundred and eight stairs are identified by an inclined elevator that runs directly through the center of the stone steps. This steep staircase, located in the Yongsan-dong district of Seoul, was originally constructed in nineteen forty-three. During the Japanese occupation, it functioned as the official path to the Gyeongseong Hoguk Shrine, a site built by Japanese authorities to honor fallen soldiers.
