The Coves d'Artà open onto the sheer face of Cap Vermell, a forty-meter-high limestone cliff overlooking the Mediterranean. You can identify the site by this commanding entrance, which hangs high above the bay of Canyamel and remains visible from the surrounding coastal waters. While these limestone caverns were known to local inhabitants since prehistoric times, they gained modern prominence after the Mallorcan historian Joan Binimelis wrote of them in fifteen ninety-five.
