Port de Sóller sits within a deep, horseshoe-shaped bay on the northwest coast of Mallorca, sheltered by the high ridges of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Its geography makes it the only safe natural harbor along this rugged stretch of coastline. For centuries, the mountains acted as a barrier that cut the valley off from the rest of the island, forcing local trade to look outward toward the Mediterranean. This isolation once turned the port into a maritime hub for exporting citrus fruits, olive oil, and wine to France.
