The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is a sprawling complex defined by its red brick pavilions, colorful ceramic mosaics, and a prominent clock tower. It originated in fourteen hundred one, when six medieval hospitals in Barcelona merged into one institution in the city center. By the turn of the twentieth century, that original site became too small, and the institution moved to this location to embrace new medical theories prioritizing fresh air and sunlight.
