The Castillo de Almodóvar del Río is defined by its dramatic silhouette of towers, including the Cuadrada, the Redonda, and the Homenaje, all rising sharply from a high hilltop overlooking the Guadalquivir River. Its roots trace back to an eighth-century Moorish fortification built over an even older Roman fort. While it served as a strategic defensive stronghold for centuries, witnessing events like the surrender of the Moorish King Abed Mohammed of Baeza in twelve twenty-six, it fell into a state of ruin by the late nineteenth century.
