The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is marked by bright, white structures that rise like ribcages and shells from pools of water. This cultural and architectural complex occupies two kilometers of the former Turia riverbed, which was drained and diverted following a major flood in nineteen fifty-seven. The park that replaced the river now serves as the foundation for these large, futuristic buildings.
