Victoria Dam

Victoria Dam is a double-curvature arch dam that rises one hundred and twenty-two meters above the Mahaweli River. It is the tallest dam in Sri Lanka and stretches five hundred and twenty meters across a deep gorge near Teldeniya. The structure operates by transferring water pressure into the surrounding canyon walls, a design choice that deviates from the reliance on heavy mass used in more traditional dams.
