The Riffelalp Resort sits on a high mountain plateau at exactly two thousand two hundred and twenty-two meters above sea level, identifiable by its sprawling alpine complex and proximity to Europe’s highest tramway. This site first drew attention in eighteen fifty-six, when Swiss hotelier Alexander Seiler began buying up the meadowland for its direct, unobstructed view of the Matterhorn. By eighteen eighty-four, Seiler had opened the original Grand Hotel Riffelalp, a summer retreat that quickly became a destination for the European elite.
