The Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall is defined by its massive, golden-glazed roof, with corners that curve sharply upward like the wings of a bird. Completed in nineteen seventy-two, the structure combines modernist concrete lines with traditional Chinese palace elements. Architect Wang Da-hong won a public competition to design the memorial, though his original plans were later modified by President Chiang Kai-shek to emphasize these traditional stylistic features. The building stands within the sprawling greenery of Zhongshan Park, serving as a permanent site to honor the founding father of the Republic of China.
