Changu Island

Changuu Island is a five-hectare speck of coral sand and acacia woodland lying about five kilometers off the coast of Stone Town. You can identify it by the long, low stone buildings of the intended prison complex, which contrast against the surrounding clear, cerulean waters of the Zanzibar Channel. While it is famously nicknamed Prison Island, the facility built here in eighteen ninety-four never held a single prisoner.
