Wat Phra That Doi Kham

religious

Wat Phra That Doi Kham is distinguished by a seventeen-meter-tall seated Buddha statue, painted in white and gold, which rises above the mountain ridge and remains visible from miles away. Known as the Temple of the Golden Mountain, this site sits on a hill overlooking the Chiang Mai valley. Its name originates from a local legend where heavy rains once washed gold minerals from the mountainside into the mouth of a nearby cave, following an auspicious omen involving a hair relic of the Buddha.
