Allerton Castle is a Grade I listed Victorian Gothic mansion defined by dark gritstone walls, elaborate towers, and sharp, soaring turrets. The estate history stretches back to the Norman Conquest and the Mauleverer family, but the structure standing here was built between eighteen forty-eight and eighteen fifty-four for the nineteenth Baron Stourton. Architect George Martin designed the building to replace an earlier eighteenth-century house that once served as the home of Prince Frederick, the Duke of York.
