Sefton Park

park garden

Sefton Park is a sprawling green landscape defined by its curving, organic pathways and a grand ornamental watercourse that feeds into a seven-acre lake. Opened in eighteen seventy-two, this two hundred thirty-five acre space was the result of an international design competition won by French landscape architect Édouard André and Liverpool architect Lewis Hornblower. The site was once part of the royal hunting grounds of Toxteth Park, but the Liverpool Corporation purchased the land from the Earl of Sefton in eighteen sixty-seven to create a public park for the city.
