Goathland Station is defined by its distinct Victorian-era architecture and its setting within the North York Moors. Designed by Thomas Prosser for the North Eastern Railway, the station opened on July first, eighteen sixty-five. It was built on a new line to replace the older, steeper route that had relied on a cable-worked incline to pull carriages up the hills.
