Doune Castle

Doune Castle rises above the wooded bend where the Ardoch Burn meets the River Teith, defined by its massive stone walls and towers that remain at their original medieval height. Built in the late fourteenth century for Robert Stewart, the first Duke of Albany and the effective ruler of Scotland for over three decades, the castle was designed to display the immense power of a man often called the uncrowned king.
