The Royal Yacht Britannia

landmark

The Royal Yacht Britannia is distinguished by its remarkably smooth, riveted hull and its towering presence at the Leith docks in Edinburgh. Launched in nineteen fifty-three from the John Brown and Company shipyard in Clydebank, this vessel served the British Royal Family for forty-four years. It is the last in a line of eighty-three royal yachts dating back to sixteen sixty, and it remains the only one of them to have survived, as others were traditionally scuttled.
