Earthquake Park is marked by a landscape of peculiar, rippling hills and deep depressions in the forest floor that look unnatural because they are. This ground is the site of the former Turnagain Heights neighborhood, which slid toward the sea during the magnitude nine point two Good Friday Earthquake on March twenty-seventh, nineteen sixty-four. It was the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in North America, lasting nearly three minutes.
