Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is a two-thousand-acre coastal wilderness defined by its rugged sandstone cliffs and the rare, wind-sculpted Torrey pine trees clinging to the bluffs. These trees are the rarest of their kind in North America, naturally found only here on the Southern California coast and on Santa Rosa Island. Long before the park was established, Spanish explorers in the sixteenth century identified this high coastal point as Punta de los Arboles, or Wooded Point, using it as a navigational landmark against the fog.
