The Palm Springs Visitor Center is instantly recognizable for its soaring, wing-like roof that slants upward and extends ninety-five feet over the entrance. Known as a hyperbolic paraboloid, this distinctive steel canopy was designed by modernist architects Albert Frey and Robson Chambers. When the structure opened in nineteen sixty-five, it functioned as an Enco gasoline station, serving travelers who were passing through the northern gateway to the Coachella Valley.
