Mosaic at the Rialto Theatre

religious

The Rialto Theatre on Fair Oaks Avenue is a striking example of nineteen twenties movie palace design, easily identified by its restored neon marquee and vertical sign that glow against the South Pasadena night. Built in nineteen twenty-five and designed by architect Lewis Arthur Smith, the theater features an eclectic exterior mix of Spanish Baroque and Egyptian elements. It was once a hub for vaudeville acts and silent films accompanied by a Wurlitzer organ, even earning fame as a filming location for movies like The Rocketeer and La La Land.
