Denver Botanic Gardens

park garden

The Denver Botanic Gardens is defined by the Boettcher Memorial Tropical Conservatory, a structure featuring an arcing dome of interlaced concrete and plexiglass. Completed in nineteen sixty-six, this modernist centerpiece serves as a home for tropical and subtropical plants within the twenty-three-acre York Street site. The gardens were established in nineteen fifty-one, but the organization originally planned its grounds in City Park. They relocated to the current property in nineteen fifty-nine after persistent vandalism and plant theft by local intruders, whom the staff dubbed night diggers, necessitated a more secure, fenced location.
