Hartwell Tavern is a saltbox-style house built between seventeen thirty-two and seventeen thirty-three along the historic Bay Road. It is recognized as a witness house within Minute Man National Historical Park because it stood here on April nineteenth, seventeen seventy-five, the day the American Revolutionary War began. The building was the home of Ephraim and Elizabeth Hartwell, who started raising a family here before obtaining a license to operate an inn in seventeen fifty-six.
