The Ames Mansion at Borderland State Park is a sprawling stone manor built in nineteen ten by Oakes and Blanche Ames. Its exterior is defined by a heavy, rugged masonry that gives the building a distinct, grounded appearance amidst the surrounding woods and ponds. The structure was designed by Blanche Ames herself, an artist and inventor who grew frustrated with professional architects and decided to oversee the construction to ensure the home was fireproof and met her family's specific needs.
