Wellesley College occupies a five-hundred-acre campus defined by the wooded shores of Lake Waban and a collection of buildings ranging from Gothic stone to modern glass. Henry Durant famously declared at the outset that women could do the work, and he intended to prepare them for great reforms in social life.
