Mickey’s Diner is instantly recognizable by its narrow, fifty-foot-long frame covered in distinctive red and yellow porcelain-enameled steel panels. Designed to resemble a vintage railroad dining car, the building features Art Deco-style lettering and a row of ten train-style windows along its front. This prefabricated structure was built in nineteen thirty-seven by the Jerry O’Mahony Diner Company in New Jersey, transported to Saint Paul by rail, and opened for business in nineteen thirty-nine.
