Kennywood is an amusement park in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, identifiable by its blend of modern steel roller coasters and historic wooden rides nestled along a bluff overlooking the Monongahela River. It opened on May thirtieth, eighteen ninety-eight, as a trolley park at the end of the Monongahela Street Railway. The park began as a simple picnic grove known as Kenny’s Grove, leased by the railway company and named by Andrew Mellon.
