The Arthur Ravenel Junior Bridge rises over the Cooper River on two distinctive diamond-shaped towers, each reaching five hundred seventy-five feet into the air. This cable-stayed bridge connects downtown Charleston to Mount Pleasant, spanning over two miles in total length. When it opened on July sixteenth, two thousand five, it replaced the narrow, aging John P. Grace Memorial Bridge and the Silas N. Pearman Bridge, which had struggled for years to handle the region's increasing traffic.
