The Grand Ole Opry is instantly recognizable by the six-foot circle of dark wood embedded directly into the center of its stage. This circle was physically cut from the floor of the Ryman Auditorium, the Opry’s former home, and installed here when the show moved to its current house in nineteen seventy-four. Every performer who steps inside that ring stands on the same boards that once held legends like Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, and Johnny Cash.
