The Parthenon in Nashville is the world's only full-scale reproduction of the ancient Greek temple in Athens. It is defined by its massive peristyle of forty-six Doric columns that support the structure, a design chosen in the nineteenth century when Nashville earned the nickname the Athens of the South for its dedication to education and universities.
