Mission Concepción

historic

Mission Concepción is distinguished by its twin bell towers and a solid limestone facade, marking it as the oldest unrestored stone church in the United States. Franciscan friars originally founded the mission in East Texas in seventeen sixteen, but they moved the community to this spot on the banks of the San Antonio River in seventeen thirty-one. Construction on the current church began shortly after, and it was officially dedicated in seventeen fifty-five.
