The Witte Museum sits on a ten-acre campus along the San Antonio River, marked by its position at the first bend of the waterway near the Brackenridge Park entrance. Established in nineteen twenty-six, it functions as a repository for Texas natural history, science, and cultural heritage, ranging from prehistoric fossils to historic artifacts. The institution originated from the efforts of school teacher and botanist Ellen Schulz Quillin, who organized students to raise funds for the initial natural history specimens.
