The Washington Park Arboretum stretches across two hundred and thirty acres of a long, narrow valley, defined by the winding path of Azalea Way. This central promenade was once the dirt track of a horse racing speedway, a feature from the site’s early days before the city transformed the logged, cut-over forest into a botanical landscape. Today, the park holds tens of thousands of trees, shrubs, and vines representing thousands of species from around the world.
