Madam Khanh - The Banh Mi Queen

Madam Khanh is marked by an awning that bears the name "The Banh Mi Queen" in large letters, identifying a small, long-standing shop on Tran Cao Van Street in Hoi An. While often associated with the region around Da Nang, this culinary destination sits within the historic streets of Hoi An. The shop began in nineteen seventy-five as a modest cart run by Nguyen Thi Loc and her husband. Foreign visitors eventually bestowed the title of Madam Khanh upon her, taking the name from her husband, and she adopted the label for her storefront.
