Phuong Do - Bamboo roots Carving

The workshop of Huynh Phuong Do is recognizable by the sight of discarded bamboo roots being transformed into expressive human faces on the workbench. Located at twenty-six Bach Dang Street in the ancient town of Hoi An, this space highlights a craft that began during a major flood in nineteen ninety-nine. When the Hoai River swelled and deposited uprooted bamboo stumps near his home, the artist, a trained carpenter, began experimenting with these gnarled, overlooked forms.
