Waverly Place is a narrow, two-block street in San Francisco’s Chinatown, easily identified by the colourful, ornate balconies that line its buildings. Long known locally as Tin Hau Temple Street, it is named for the Tin Hau Temple, which has held services on this site since eighteen fifty-two. The temple, now located on the top floor of a building at one hundred twenty-five Waverly Place, is the oldest surviving Chinese temple in the United States.
