The Viejo Hotel Cataratas is a single-story building of English architectural style featuring long external galleries that once served as terraces overlooking the surrounding jungle. Constructed starting in nineteen twenty-two, it stands as the first major hotel built in the immediate area of the Iguazu Falls, predating the official creation of Iguazú National Park by over a decade. The structure consists of brick walls set on a reinforced concrete frame with a zinc roof, and its original cedar woodwork was crafted in Buenos Aires before being transported by ship to the site.
