Gap Park

park garden

Gap Park is defined by the sharp drop of the Tasman Sea cliffs, a vertical break in the sandstone known as The Gap. Dedicated as a public recreation reserve in eighteen eighty-seven, this coastal escarpment sits on the edge of the South Head peninsula. It has functioned as a vantage point for watching ships since the early days of the colony, when a signal station was built on the ridge to alert Sydney of incoming vessels.
