The white and black striped tower of the Farol da Barra stands at the point where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bay of All Saints. This lighthouse operates from within the Forte de Santo Antônio da Barra, a military structure originally established in sixteen ninety-eight to guard the entrance to Salvador, which was the first capital of Brazil.
