The Edifício Esther rises ten stories above the Praça da República, distinguished by its clean, horizontal lines and a stark lack of the ornamental excess that defined the buildings around it when it opened in nineteen thirty-eight. Designed by architects Álvaro Vital Brazil and Adhemar Marinho, it arrived as one of the first large-scale modern buildings in the city to utilize an independent reinforced concrete structure.
