The Mayfair Theatre, located at one thousand seventy-four Bank Street, is identifiable by its modest brick facade and the curvilinear Spanish Colonial Revival gable rising above its roofline. Opened on December fifth, nineteen thirty-two, during the depths of the Great Depression, the building was designed by architect John P. MacLaren as a neighborhood cinema. While its exterior remains relatively plain to harmonize with the local shopping strip, the interior features an atmospheric design meant to transport patrons to a Spanish villa.
